Simon began his career in radio and worked at 4BC in Brisbane as a sports journalist on events including the Sydney Olympics and Super 12 Rugby. He was also producer of the news and current affairs program Brisbane Tonight and produced the initial four hours of the station's coverage of the September 11 terrorist attacks.
He moved to the position of News Editor soon after. Simon also worked on 4BC's coverage of the Bali bombing .
In 2003 Simon was appointed as Producer of Seven Mackay's highly successful local news service.
In October, 2005 he was promoted to Producer of the Townsville bulletin.
