Born in Canberra and raised in New South Wales and Queensland, Nathan Spurling has lived and breathed sport for all of his 25 years.
The role of a sports journalist was always a dream he strived for, be it commentating his own backyard football games or writing articles on every code imaginable.
In 2001, Nathan completed a Bachelor of Arts degree, majoring in media communication, with distinction at the Queensland University of Technology.
He then obtained a Diploma of Journalism, again with distinction.
Nathan began with the Seven Queensland team in November 2003, before securing a place on the Wide Bay team in early 2004.
At the start of 2005, he moved to the sports mad town of Townsville, where he joined the North Queensland Cowboys on their ride to an NRL grand final, including their heartbreaking loss.
The city continues to growing as a strong city of sport. There's NBL and WNBL basketball all summer, the recent Super 14 union match, the state netball league, along with strong local competitions.
