In three years reporting for 7 Local News, Matt Carmichael's been privileged to be involved in some great moments of local sport.
That includes covering the North Queensland Cowboys during their 10th season in the NRL. Their charge into their first semi-finals series thrilled sports fans across Australia – Matt was there with the team every step of the way.
Sports journalism was a natural choice for Matt. After completing a Bachelor of Journalism at the Queensland University of Technology, he had a short stint at the News-Mail in Bundaberg, before joining the 7 Local News.
He then transferred to Townsville where the Cowboys season was a career highlight. Matt also travelled to Palm Island with the Townsville Crocodiles, for local school clinics. That trip underlined how much sport impacts the community.
Matt then joined 7 Local News on the Sunshine Coast, where his working knowledge of two popular national sporting teams helped boost local Sports coverage.
