Jane Doyle is one of Adelaide's most experienced and respected television news readers, having started her career with Seven News in 1989.
Jane's media career began over two decades ago when she left the secure and relatively well paid job of a school teacher for a newspaper cadetship in far north Queensland. She then moved to Port Pirie in 1981 with her husband Ian, who had been appointed Rural Officer for ABC Radio. Jane was immediately employed part time on The Recorder newspaper before convincing ABC Radio to give her casual work as an announcer.
Jane's husband Ian went to Adelaide as a reporter on ABC TV's Countrywide, which meant another career u-turn for Jane.
She returned to print journalism, with a two and a half year stint as Adelaide bureau chief for TV Week.
The radio bug had bitten however, and in 1986 Jane resigned from yet another secure position to take a six week contract with ABC Radio in Adelaide. That first contract led to a permanent position and a role as the chief morning newsreader for ABC Radio as well as many other journalistic and announcing roles.
The lure of television came in 1987 and Jane took on the role as a relief news presenter for ABC TV. This was followed in 1988 as the Monday to Friday news reader for the ABC in Adelaide.
Jane left the ABC in 1989 to join Graeme Goodings on Seven News. Together Jane and Graeme helped make Seven News Adelaide's most watched news bulletin and one of the most successful ever news programs.
Jane is a regular presenter on the Seven Network's top rating local lifestyle series, Discover. Jane is also part of the Fiveaa breakfast team.
Privately, she has a passion for gardening, cooking, eating, drinking, theatre and music which are all easily accommodated for in South Australia.
