Graeme Goodings joined Seven News as a journalist in 1981 and took on the role of newsreader in 1983.
He started his career as a panel operator at 3AW Melbourne and made his first on-air appearance on Christmas morning in 1967.
The scheduled announcer called in sick and there was no one to replace him, so Graeme stepped in and hosted the three-hour shift. The station management was so impressed with his effort it asked him to read the weekend news bulletins.
In 1969, Graeme commenced his first full-time announcing position with 7LA in Launceston, Tasmania. After two years he was given a job back at 3AW as a general announcer on the evening shift and producing the late evening talk program.
An offer to join 5DN Adelaide as a full-time newsreader followed, along with a move into journalism, but after five years combining radio and television, Graeme decided it was time for a break and left the industry to go into the health food business in Tasmania.
But the appeal of media was too firmly entrenched, and he took up a position in Launceston as a copy writer and commercial producer, then back into the newsroom as a reporter/presenter.
During this time, Graeme produced and presented a live Saturday night program called The Saturday Night Show.
Graeme wrote and performed regular comedy segments and in the second year of production it won a Logie in Tasmania for the Best Live Variety Show, the first time a non-capital city television channel picked up such an award.
A passionate Adelaide Crows supporter, Graeme is a frequent visitor to Football Park and was delighted to accept the role of Club Ambassador in 1991.
Graeme presents the weekend news bulletin on Seven.
