What happened in the week Monday July 2 - Friday July 6 (episodes 4451 - 4455)

Hello Everyone,

Well, this week started with Mr Stewart nearly running me over and ended with Naomi flooring Brad. In between, Kim left the Bay. As you can imagine, it’s been a really emotional week.

Let’s start at the top, shall we? Mr Stewart’s eyesight has been failing him a lately, but with Mr Stewart being Mr Stewart, he didn’t tell anyone about it. After nearly knocking me over (after having failed his driver’s licence renewal!), he finally confessed that he’s afraid he may have the hereditary disease (glaucoma) that caused his dad to nearly go blind.

We managed to talk him into getting his eyes tests and it turns out he has cataracts in his eyes. They will be removed, but poor old Mr Stewart is starting to feel his age. In his mind he’s still a young man, but his body’s telling him otherwise and he’s feeling bad about how short-tempered he’s become. We can only continue supporting him…

The Surf Club has really felt the loss of Mr Stewart’s driving licence. Martha’s job has become even busier so she has hired Cassie on a part-time basis. I wasn’t happy about it (it is her final year at school after all), but we’ll see how her trial period goes…

Speaking of trial periods, it looks like Kim and Kit are about to start one. Something tells me, however, that those two will be together for a long time. Well, at least I hope so after everything that Kim, Kit and Rachel had to go through for this to happen. Kim and Rachel’s marriage is really over now: Kim has left the Bay to live with Kit and their baby, Archie.

Like everyone else that got to know Kim during his time in the Bay, I’m going to miss him a lot. While he’s made his fair share of mistakes, he really is a lovely man at heart. Poor, poor Rachel is going to miss him so much. She may also be wondering if she should have left with Hugh when she had the chance…

Leah has been a great support to Rachel, but she’s had a lot on her plate too, what with Jazz floating back into town this week. I just found out that she’s moved into Amanda’s old place. You know, it’s hard to tell if Jazz really does have good intentions when it comes to her son - Drew seems to only lose his way even more when she’s around – but apparently the two of them have had something of a heart-to-heart. I wonder if Drew will now accept the job at the gym that he turned down.

The thing is, that heart-to-heart happened at Belle’s urging. Why has Belle taken a shine to Jazz? Well, it seems Jazz is only too happy to share her champagne with under-age kids. I don’t mean to sound nasty, but really, Jazz should know better. And so should Belle. Irene had to send her home from work to sober up.

Tony and Lucas appear to have made some progress at last. Tony told me that the reason Lucas has a problem with Geoff, aside from ‘dobbing’ him in about sinking Tony’s boat (which I think was the right thing to do), is that Luc thinks Tony is more interested in Geoff because he’s a star rugby player. Tony ended up having a good conversation with Luc about everything that’s been going on and they’re going to try and find something they both like to do…

This is the part I’ve been dreading. I spoke to Brad a little earlier and his trip to the city to confront Naomi has not gone well. He had to go because she’s changed her story, telling the department that she told Brad everything about her and Lucas and he did nothing about it. She’s going to lie to save her job and now Brad tells me she refuses to tell the truth, even if it means Brad will lose his job. He’s trying to be brave but I know how much his job means to him. I wonder why she can’t just tell the truth?!

Anyway, I better go. Ric’s worried that Mattie is spending too much time with Reuben and his surfer mates. I’m better off trying to help him than sitting around here stewing over what may or may not happen to Brad.

Love, Sally.
