Hello Everyone,

What a close shave we had earlier this week! After opening a present from her mum, Mattie ran off to the rocks by the beach to clear her head. A huge wave came and washed her away and she got caught in a rip. Luckily, Lily and Jules were walking past and heard her screams for help and Lily didn’t hesitate in jumping in to help Mattie. Unfortunately, the same can’t be said for Jules…

Ric showed up just in the nick of time and managed to pull both girls from the water – Mattie was ok but Lily had lost consciousness and wasn’t breathing. Ric’s quick-thinking may just have saved her life as he immediately began CPR and revived her. They got both girls to the hospital and Lily was given urgent treatment. Brad, Cassie and I came as soon as we heard and had to wait for what seemed like a lifetime to hear that Lily was ok.

Of course, there was plenty of blame flying around – Matilda blamed herself, Ric blamed Jules and Lily’s mum Brenda blamed Lily! She came to see her daughter and I must admit I was a tad reluctant to let the doctors call her, but she is her mother after all. Sadly, she just wound up upsetting the poor girl. I had an idea she might do something like that but to walk out on your own child in that kind of situation is unthinkable. I know she’s had a hard life and it’s not always easy doing the right thing, but your children come first no matter what.

We later found out of course why Jules acted the way he did – a previous girlfriend of his drowned in a boating accident – which certainly shed some light on his behaviour. What I don’t understand is why he didn’t go and visit Lily and explain himself. She showed real maturity beyond her years when she refused to blame Matilda in any way for what happened – it was just an unfortunate accident.

And something positive has come out of all this, Lily is taking steps to overcome being a victim and to move on with her life. Although we’ll miss her at the Summer Bay house, I’m pleased for her decision to move into a refuge and be independent. She’ll always have a home with us, but good for her I say!

In other news, Alf and Irene filled me in on how Martha was thinking of leaving the Rocket Club – I can’t express how relieved I felt when I heard! We were all really hoping that she wouldn’t change her mind, that was until Cam claimed to be in love with her! Jack told me all about it and we both agree that it’s rather convenient timing what with Martha threatening to leave and his business going under. He needs her to keep dancing and I’ve heard about some sleazy businessman in town – who’s taken a particular interest in her – offering to invest in the club if she ‘entertains’ him.

It makes me feel sick to the stomach to think of Martha being a part of that seedy world. Of course when Cam “fell down the stairs”, she was quick to go back on her decision to leave the club and is back by his side. Although she’s starting to see this lifestyle for what it really is, Cam has really gotten under her skin. I hope she can walk away from all this soon before she loses all of her self-respect…

Kim certainly seems to submerging himself in fatherhood and is so supportive of Kit, especially as the poor thing has just lost her mother. But my concerns are also for Rachel. She’s a great gal and has been unbelievably understanding about the whole situation, I get the feeling that perhaps Kim is taking that for granted. Irene tells me that she saw Rachel spending time with her lodger and co-worker Dr. Hugh recently when Kim left her in the lurch to go and see to Kit. Kim should just be careful that Hugh doesn’t turn into more than just a shoulder for Rachel to cry on...

It seems that what we thought was Tony coping with Beth’s death was actually him bottling everything up. Alf told me all about Beth’s memorial service, it sounded really beautiful. Beth was such a wonderful woman and meant so much to so many. We’ll all miss her in the Bay, I just wish there was more we could do for Tony and Beth's girls.

I’ve also heard how Amanda turned up at the service to pay her respects to her former daughter-in-law. Kit wasn’t too pleased to see her there. I can see where Kit’s coming from but Amanda’s life is in complete tatters at the moment – what with the gym’s closure – and I don’t think blaming and judging her for recent events will solve anything.

A little birdie told me that she misread Peter’s caring actions and thought there might be some chance of reconciliation. Dan told me that Peter let her down gently but I wouldn’t completely rule out a reunion between those two. They do still care about each other and I’m sure once she sorts her life out and gets back on track, they may rekindle their love.

It turns out that Ethan guy is back in town stirring up trouble. Belle showed me a photograph she accidentally took of him and Kelli on the pier. I must say, it looks to me like she wasn’t exactly fighting him off!

Anyway, I had better be off now. Brad, the kids and I are going to watch a movie and spend some quality time together.

Love, Sally.
