Paul O'Brien was born on 14 April 1978, in South Africa.
Since moving from South Africa, Paul and his family lived all over Australia and Mauritius with his Dad's job as a construction manager. Growing up on the Gold Coast with his brother and younger sister, Paul decided at 21 to move to Melbourne to pursue acting and to be with his parents who had moved there a couple of years earlier.
Paul tried his hand at Melbourne's comedy circuit whilst looking for acting work. He loves stand-up comedy, and says, "The adrenalin is amazing but acting is a job I could happily do for the rest of my life."
Paul has starred in a couple of short films, stage productions and had a small role in one feature Parallells, a small independent Melbourne film directed by Ben Warner, but considers landing the role of Jack Holden as his big break.
Constable Jack Holden is the elder brother of Lucas (Rhys Wakefied) a student at Summer Bay High. He, his brother and dad Tony (Jon Sivewright) are best mates: they're practically inseparable.
Three years out of the Police Academy, Jack is a constable keen for action. A nice guy, Jack has moved to the Bay with a mysterious past, one bound to catch up with him. Paul says, "Jack is a fun loving, likeable character, very caring and compassionate. It's hard not to like him!"
Jack immediately notices the gorgeous Martha (Jodi Gordon). She doesn't seem to fall for his charms, which makes gaining her attention even more of a challenge.
Multi-talented Paul was rehearsing for a one-man show when he landed the role in Home and Away. He also plays guitar, sings and can salsa dance! Paul has worked as a chef and enjoys knocking up dishes in the kitchen, his specialties being seafood and Italian cooking. He loves surfing, body boarding, golf, skiing and water skiing.
Paul was born under the Zodiac sign of Aries, the Ram.
