Jack is the eldest child of the close-knit Holden family and a hard-working policeman.
Jack is a Police Constable, keen for action and eager to prove himself, but Jack takes the responsibilities of law enforcement very seriously. His desire to enter the police force was driven by the unsolved murder of his mother who was killed in a drive-by mugging.
Off-duty, Jack is a light-hearted, confident young man, always smiling. He is self-assured, but never arrogant. Women are attracted to him, but his ability to switch off his emotions is etched into his character as a way of self-protection. Jack and Martha had an on-again, off-again romance due to the clashing of their strong egos, but finally reconciled after Jack saved Martha's life.
Martha proposed to Jack and he happily accepted. The two wed in a beautiful tradional ceremony followed by a country-themed reception in a barn. Unfortunately, tragedy struck when Zoe (The Stalker) enacted her revenge on her town by setting off an explosion.
Jack and Martha's relationship eventually disintegrated. Jack moved on to marry Sam who has a young son called Rory. But they have been in trouble from the start as Jack has never stopped loving Martha.
Tragedy struck his relationship with Sam when Johnny Cooper entered their lives, causing Sam's past to catch up with her and a stream of events to eventuate in to her taking her own life.
Sam would now be turning in her grave, with her worst fears while she was alive coming to fruition. Her one intention in her life with Jack was to keep him and Martha apart, but through her death it is the one thing she solidified. Jack and Martha have run back in to each other's arms and are intent on being that way for some time to come. Hellajluha!
