Hello all,

Well, there’s no way to sugarcoat it – it’s been a harrowing week in the Bay. I may as well get straight into it…

Dreadful news re: Martha and Jack. After spending a lovely day together on a romantic picnic, Rachel was waiting for them with the test results: Martha has breast cancer. Jack and Martha struggled to respond to the tragic news, and as if it couldn’t get any worse, it’s not only Martha who is in danger, but her baby as well. The cancer is an aggressive one, and they’re advised to hit it with everything they can. But the treatments would be harmful to the baby, and if Martha is to go ahead with the full treatment, she’ll have to terminate the baby. Jack wanted to do whatever it takes to save Martha, but Martha couldn’t bear the thought of sacrificing the baby for herself. After much soul searching, and to Jack’s despair, Martha has decided to keep her baby. That means she’ll only have treatment that won't harm her child. But everything else will have to wait until after the baby has been born. What a hard time for a couple who have already been through so much together.

More news on the Ric and Mattie front too. Having heard about Martha, the always caring Matilda arrived at Ric’s door to offer some comfort, which was apparently just what he was hoping she’d do. Overcome by emotion, the two quickly fell into an embrace, with Mattie staying the night. But the next morning she realised what a mistake this was, throwing everything they’d resolved back up in the air. With Martha’s diagnosis hanging over his head, Ric was of the feeling that life’s too short not to try the whole long distance thing. But for the same reason, Matilda realised life is too fleeting to hold onto the past, and to Ric’s dismay, decided to go ahead with her plans and head towards a fresh start in Perth. Even though she wasn’t in the most celebratory of moods, Matilda let Belle throw her a small farewell, which Ric didn’t even show up to! Guess he’s taking it all pretty hard…

It seems to be hard for lovers all round this week - Roman and Charlie’s unofficial date was ruined when Nicole arrived home early from the school camp, having been sent home after a, ah, fiasco with a kitchen hand. Poor Roman is finding it so hard to deal with Nicole’s defensive, wild child behaviour. It just seems no matter how hard Roman tries to get through, Nicole’s just not interested. Meanwhile Charlie and Roman seem to be very happy together at the moment. I can’t say the same about her level of contentment with new partner Angelo. He seems to consider himself a super stud, and he’s set his sights on Charlie in a big way. What a cheeky guy!

But a curious turn of events when Nicole was left home, grounded. This young guy Eliot arrived looking for Roman, and being bored and bad (as she tends to be) Nicole offered to show him to the Diner to find Roman. At first Roman was angry at Nicole for breaking her grounding, but then Elliot explained that he is “Mark’s younger brother”. Mark was a member of Roman’s SAS unit, and he died on a mission that others escaped. Turns out it was Roman who made the decision to leave him behind, but for whatever reason, Eliot doesn’t believe Roman’s story. Anyway, so with Nicole and Roman still butting heads, Nicole ended up deciding to spend her school holidays with her Mum – but at the bus stop a little birdie told me Eliot offered her a lift. I hope she knows what she’s doing!

Aden and Belle are doing well, which I think is nice. Aden’s Dad Larry has been sober a while now, but when Aden visited him in hospital, Larry thoughtlessly jumped the gun and asked Aden to move back in. Aden said no way, no how. Larry was devastated – I hope he sticks to the straight and narrow…

Well, that’s about it from me. Might make a cuppa and see if I can make anymore headway with what to do with this big old house of mine – take in some boarders perhaps, or maybe even sell it… Hang on, phone ringing.

Oh gosh, must dash – just got a call that Axel and Jai were involved in a hit and run, and they’re at the hospital! I'll fill you in as soon as I can!!

With love,

Leah x
