Hi all!

Well, some good news and some not-so-good news for us folk in the Bay this week, and most of it seems to be about matters of the heart…

Last week Mattie dropped the bombshell what she was set on going to Western Australia for university, with or without Ric. At first I thought Ric might go with her – and it seems Mattie shared these hopes – but they were dashed when Ric decided the bait shop was his future. Mattie was in two minds over it all, but in the end it seems Beth may have had something to do with her final decision, which was to leave. Tony told me he gave Mattie a beautiful, delicate pearl necklace Beth bought for her before she died, to give to Matilda when she got into uni. At first Ric and Mattie were going to try a long distance relationship but I’m sorry to say that in the end the two lovers decided it simply wasn’t going to work. They’ve broken up for good, effective, well, as of now! I can’t believe it – I really thought they’d try and make it work. While we’re all very proud of Mattie for achieving her dreams of getting into university, it has turned out to be a very sad twist of fate indeed.

Good news for Rachel and Tony – despite some pre-operation jitters, the reverse vasectomy went completely smoothly! Rachel told me she’s been blown away with Tony’s unwavering commitment to having a family. They are doing so well together, it’s just wonderful. Unfortunately, the same can’t be said of Martha and Jack. Some quite frightening news there – while their first ultrasound went off without a hitch, it pains me to tell you that they received news that well outweighs even the elation of seeing their child for the first time. Martha may have breast cancer. Jack has been trying to stay positive for the sake of Martha and her baby but they won’t know for certain if she even has the cancer until the test results come back next week. Martha is so worried about her baby and the effects any treatment might have on it - but either way, they’re going to have to wait an agonising few days for the test results to come back. How awful for them… Our prayers are with them both.

A very dramatic week on the Aden, Belle and Larry front. Aden and Larry have been bonding over the past few weeks, but after clocking the awkwardness between Belle and his father at the Diner, Aden forced Belle to tell him why. She admitted that she caught Larry drinking last week, and hot-headed Aden was absolutely furious! And not just at his father for betraying him, but at Belle as well for keeping it from him, (which between you and me I thought was a bit unfair). Aden was understandably devastated Larry was drinking again, in the end moved out, spending a night in the Diner. After all the drama between Belle and him, Irene twigged that the pair are more than just workmates, so it seems their relationship will soon be more out in the open. I believe now things are a bit smoother between them – but I can’t say the same about Larry and Aden. I have no idea if Larry will be able to win back the love and trust of his son.

Kirsty has started as the new school secretary at Summer Bay High, and despite a shaky first day (let’s just say she’s not exactly a computer whiz!), Principal Bartlett was impressed enough to ask her to attend the school camp as a supervisor with Miles. I can tell you one young girl who’ll need some supervising there – Nicole! Kirsty and her have been butting heads – as Nicole has with everyone else in the Bay lately. I’m not sure if it has anything to do with Roman and Charlie’s blossoming friendship – perhaps she feels a little left out? Well, she certainly has a way of acting out to get attention – I heard that she got quite, ah, friendly with a much older kitchenhand at the school camp! Luckily Geoff alerted Kirsty and Bartlett before the situation got out of hand. Who knows how Roman will react to this!

I’m glad to say I can end this week’s blog on a particularly lovely piece of news – it seems Morag has well and truly swept Ross off his feet – after a romantic dinner at the Diner, he asked her to marry him! Who would have thought that Morag may be the next Summer Bay resident to enjoy being a bride!

Love to all,

Leah x
