Hi all,
The whole town is a mess. It’s been six days and there is still no word about whether the helicopter passengers survived or not. When they downscaled the search to a body recovery mission, that’s when it really started to sink in. Everyone is on edge. How could so much tragedy happen in two weeks?
Beth told me that due to bushfires and limited resources that the search was called off, and to continue to fund the search ourselves was going to cost $50,000 a day! To everyone's surprise Amanda agreed to fund the entire search, until everyone is found! This will definitely help her settle into the town, especially as her idea of a commemorative morning tea was taken the wrong way, poor thing. Beth said people have already started to warm to her, as she's also volunteered to hold Peter's memorial service at her new home. We also eventually found out she is using the money from her film to fund the search! Her sacrifice really struck a chord with us - we are all glad that Amanda has appeared to turn over a new leaf. She’s trying so hard to get her Belle back. I pray that all our loved ones return to us safe and sound.
Tasha was discharged from hospital at the beginning of the week, her and her baby are fine despite Tash going into premature labour. Tash seems a little overwhelmed by everything - I hope she's going to be OK... We had another scare when Jack discharged himself from hospital and ran off - we were all scared that he wasn’t going to get his medication for his transplant in time (so his body wouldn’t reject his new liver). He’s been depressed since the wedding and the disappearance of Martha in the helicopter crash. He went home, where he could feel close to her. But after some comforting words from Tasha, she convinced him to return to hospital. Those two seem to be getting very close...
Here's an interesting turn of events: While Leah and I were helping Dan prepare for Peter’s memorial service, he was going through some of Peter’s things he found his bank statements. Some of his money was going into a private account for ‘Andrew Curtis’. This turned out to be Peter’s illegitimate son Drew from a childhood sweetheart! I was knocked for six! He had to tell him that his dad was dead, but Drew said he didn’t care. He showed up briefly to Peter's wake but left just as quickly and has now done a runner from his boarding school. I've seen my fair share of troubled kids to know that Dan and Leah have a livewire on their hands!
Speaking of troubled kids I've noticed Lucas and Lee, one of the other Summer Bay students, conducting some very highly strung conversations of late - my principal's intuition (OK, acting principal's intuition) tells me something's up there... I suppose only time will tell.
Rachel is taking the helicopter crash very hard: she lost her mum and now Kim is missing. She feels as if it's her fault as she organised for the burn victims to fly to the city for treatment. Leah told me she hasn’t been sleeping and has been drinking a lot lately, which is scary and sad. Hang on, phone ringing.
I’ve got to go - that was Leah - she says Rachel is drunk and just drove off. Rach is in serious trouble - Leah even mentioned something about 'calling in the big guns' to help save her - I wonder who she could be talking about?
