Edited scene from Sally's farewell.

Sally's last scene on the beach with Alf was emotional and powerful. Kate herself was very happy to keep everything understated. However, an additional scene had been shot with other members of the cast saying goodbye. On the day of the shoot, the weather turned foul, thunder and lightening had the cast and crew running for shelter, and it was later decided that scene should be dropped. At the request of many fans, Bevan Lee - Network Script Executive, has allowed us to put this script on the site. Enjoy!

LOC. EXT: CARAVAN PARK - MORNING DAY 4

SALLY, COLLEEN, MARTHA, BELLE, MILES, RIC, LEAH, RACHEL, IRENE, PIPPA (G), LITTLE PIPPA (G), N/S HOLIDAY-MAKERS.

SALLY makes her way, along with PIPPA, LITTLE PIPPA, STEPHEN and CARLY, moving towards her friends who have gathered to say goodbye. She casts her eye around the group, realizing Alf is not amongst them.

1. SALLY (to Pippa)
Where’s Mr Stewart?

2. PIPPA
He’s waiting on the beach. We’ll stop on the way.
(off SALLY’s questioning look)
He’d rather say goodbye alone.

She gives SALLY a knowing smile and wraps a comforting arm around her, as COLLEEN bustles up. She’s managed to pull herself together, but only just.

3. COLLEEN
I don’t know where to start.

4. SALLY
I'm going to miss you so much, Colleen.

5. COLLEEN
Me too, Pet.
She swallows hard on the emotion that threatens - determined
to hold it together.

6. COLLEEN (CONT)
I know a lot of people think I’m a silly old goat. But you...you and Dr Saunders made me feel like a part of your family -
She breaks off - suddenly too choked up to continue.

7. SALLY
You’ll always be a part of my family.

SALLY too is struggling not to cry. She holds COLLEEN tight with her free arm.

8. CARLY
Pippa has something for you, Mrs Smart.

COLLEEN breaks away, to see LITTLE PIPPA holding out her little fairy doll.

9. COLLEEN
But that’s Mary the Fairy, you love her.

10. LITTLE PIPPA
I love you, too.

It’s the final straw for COLLEEN, and tears start to stream down her cheeks. She takes LITTLE PIPPA in her arms, for a final cuddle as SALLY turns to MARTHA. MARTHA leans in giving her a kiss on the cheek.

11. MARTHA
Thank you - for everything. For being there for me so many times.

12. SALLY
Take good care of Ric and Mr. Stewart for me.
MARTHA draws her in for a hug.

SALLY smiles as she turns, her eyes filled with tears, as she moves to LEAH.

13. LEAH
Don’t you cry! You know what I’m like, I won’t stop for days.

14. SALLY
You gave me my most precious thing. (they both look at LITTLE PIPPA)
I’ll never be able to thank you enough.

LEAH cuts over her, tears about to flow:

15. LEAH
Stop it, I’m going to lose it.

She grabs SALLY in a hug. As they hold each other, SALLY whispers:

16. SALLY
You’re my best friend. I love you.

17. LEAH (hugging tighter)
One from Dan too. Love you.

IRENE moves in as they break.

18. IRENE
We’re going to be thinking of you, Darl, every single day.

IRENE gives her a kiss. As RIC moves up to join them, wrapping his arms around them in a group hug.

19. SALLY
Me too.
(to RIC)
And you. I’m so proud of you. You stay safe, you hear.

20. RIC (teasing)
Yes “mum”.

21. SALLY (smiles through the tears)
That’s who I am and don’t you forget it. And write.

Eventually SALLY extricates herself from the hug and moves over to retrieve LITTLE PIPPA from MILES.

22. SALLY
You all write if you’re in trouble.
(to BELLE as she hugs her)
And photos. Send me photos.

23. BELLE
Lots.

24. SALLY
I love you all.

RIC gives his princess LITTLE PIPPA a fond kiss on the cheek. With a final smile to RIC, SALLY, PIPPA and LITTLE PIPPA head for the car. COLLEEN is blubbering, a total mess. And everyone else is now crying too, as SALLY gets into the car. She looks out at her friends one last time as she starts up the engine of the car. She gives a wave. And the car pulls away...
