Can you spot a Love Rat a mile off?

It’s obvious, Rachel’s heading in to dangerous waters with the new love rat whose turned up in Summer Bay, Lewis. She can’t see her nose despite her face even though Sam can see he’s no good for her. So why do we do it?

You know a love rat deep down but you still fall head over heels for their charming ways regardless. Those little words in your head whisper “don’t do it” but you ignore them nonetheless. It’s the bad boy, or bad girl, way! They impose themselves on your heart knowing the right things to say and like a snake charmer you’re hypnotised. Wham, they’ve got you hook, line and sinker! You may not even know a thing about them other than what they tell you but you sink further and further in to their grips, handing over your heart on a silver platter! One day you’re in control of your life and the next day you are definitely not.

We’ve all been in love with a love rat at some stage and we’ve all ended up with a broken heart. So why do we do it then? Maybe it’s because we think WE will be the one to change their bad boy, or girl, ways. Or maybe we just think we are wise enough not to fall for them in the first place. But we do every time.

Sure signs the person you’re head over heels in love with is a would-be-love rat?

1. Flirtatious Tendencies
Go on admit it, you’ve seen it but you just turned a blind eye, or you confronted him/her and they accused you of being a close friend to the green-eyed monster. It’s all in your head! Never listen to someone who tells you it’s all in your head, because nine times out of ten your eyes are working perfectly well and the messages that have been transmitted to your brain are right on track. Not everyone who flirts is a love rat so be careful too when summing up your love. Flirting etiquette varies significantly and can lead to misunderstandings. Some common tell-tale signs are prolonged eye contact with another person, touching one’s hair, smiling suggestively, winking, flattery and teasing. If your love is not portraying any of these signals to you but you see him/her doing it to someone else then it is definitely time to move on.

2. Switches their phone off at odd times
Secrecy is a love rat’s best friend. If they switch their phone off in your company or if you can’t get hold of them at certain times of the day or night then that’s a pretty sure sign they are not behaving impeccably. But be careful of misinterpreting this too, some people have hectic workloads and need to switch their phone off for meetings or just to get some peace and quiet from time to time. It’s always a good sign if someone doesn’t mind answering their phone and having a conversation right in front of you or is open about who they are text messaging.

3. Charms the pants off everyone they meet
A love rat is one charming rat! He/she wants everyone to like him/her and goes out of his/her way to be liked. He/she usually holds court in social situations. But beware, there are some quiet ones out there too.

4. Your best friend either loves or hates him/her
If your best friend loves your love-rat then be extra careful because that’s a recipe for disaster! See step 1 for tell-tale signs your boy/girlfriend and your best friend are doing the flirtatious tango. And if your best friend hates your boy/girlfriend then be careful too, cause that’s also a recipe for disaster because he/she knows exactly what you know deep down in your heart and is trying frantically to get you away from the very thing you know you should stay away from but can’t.

Everyone knows a love rat when they meet him/her. Your head tells you to stay right away but your heart tells you something different, leading you straight in to a battle your poor little heart is never going to win.

Unless of course you play a love rat at his/her own love game! Love is a battlefield after all.
