Mattie bends the rules to help a friend…
Georgia: OMG! Mattie gets caught cheating this week. Yet another fall from grace for Summer’s Bay’s golden girl. What’s gotten into her?
Michael: It’s not what’s gotten into her, G. It’s what’s gotten out of her, e.g. her personality. Remember when she was sweet and innocent? Why do you think she’s been acting like this?
Georgia: Where do you start? I mean, there was the rumble with Reuben, the fall-out with Ric. Now she's living it up with Martha, but maybe she needs the guiding hand of an adult - Irene could help or maybe even Tony. I mean, she was trying to help a mate out by doing the test for them. Maybe that makes it OK? What say you, Sensei Michaela?
Michael: Hmmm… cheating in an exam to help out a friend. Nope. Don’t buy it. See, cheating never helps anyone, ever. I know that’s a bit hardline but if you haven’t done the work, then you have to take the fail. A bitter pill to swallow I know, but no one ever said growing up is easy…
Georgia: Not if you live in the sunny confines of one S Bay it ain’t. Heard that bro. But let’s see, Mattie took the law into her own hands because Emma has fallen pregnant. Realising you’re about to have a bub before an exam can never be good. So you could argue she had good reason…. But you know, I think Emma should never have put Mattie in that sitch in the first. The kids sure know how to make life for a friend tricky. What’s next for Mattie – joining a motorcycle gang!?
Michael: A motorcycle gang, hey? Well, I guess it’s not out of the question that she might call up Jules. That guy loved his bikes. But seriously, I am a bit concerned for Mattie. She’s taking her mum’s death quite hard (which is perfectly understandable). What do you think might help her turn a corner? Another big helping of Dalby?
Georgia: She’s got that already. She needs something to care about other than strife-torn personal drama. Like a regular day without having to explain to a freaked out boyfriend they’re not about to start a family. She should get a dog. Or a parrot that comes out with wacky phrases like, “Pieces of eight!” and “Stone the flippin’ crows!”. Hilarity *will* ensue. BTW did you now her entire HSC future is now at stake. What the? As if she needs to be coping with that, when there’s so many more entertaining phrases she could be teaching that parrot.
Michael: Or maybe a parrot that says, “Martha and Cassie get in to a fight over the new guy in town, Henk.” What a naughty parrot, saying things like that. I think Mattie will be OK in time. She has had a lot on her plate in this, her final year at school. She’s doing well to still be attending, I’d just like to see her ‘doing the right thing’ as often as she used to (which was nearly all the time).
